Default Largest tire

What's the largest tire anyone has put on the stock 17"x9" rim?

Aren't the stock 17" rims 8" wide? I put 255\50's on the back of my 05gt and you could maybe go a little wider. There is a little buldge, but not a whole bunch, I run the 17" bullit style rims.

I have 275/40/17 on my stock 17x8's. So far so good, my friends were telling me there is no way they would fit but they did.

Doesn't that lower your car about 3/4"? Stock 235/55ZR17's would be 17+ (9.25*2*.55) = about 27.2 inches in diameter, and 275/40ZR17's would be 17+ (10.8*2*.55) = about 25.6" in diameter. The difference would be about 1.6" in diameter, or about 3/4" in radius. (235mm = about 9.25"; 275mm = about 10.8")

Am I doing the math right?

Yes you did the math right, I got 275/40/17 and I knew I was gonna reduce the diameter by around 1 inch give or take. I did it because I wanted to experiment how 3.73's will actually feel because I was let down by the 4.10 when they just died @ over 110 mph.

there's no reason your 4.10's should die at 110.

Not to hijack, but i was thinking of putting 275/40-18 on my 18 x 8.5 OEM's. Has anyone tried that, as the rims are 1" narrower than the manufacturers recommended width? If so, any pictures? Thanks in advance.

I really like my 255\50 R17's and they are the same diameter as stock. You put a little more then 10" of tread to the pavement (wide). they look pretty mean when you look at the car from behind.
