K & N Air Intake System

K & N Air Intake System
I've just installed a K & N Intake System on my '05 GT. The after running for 20 minute, the vehicle's Emission warning light comes on. I've reset the computer by disconnecting the neg battery cable for 4 hours. This does reset the warning light but it comes back on after 15-20 minutes running. Any ideas on what actions should be taken to eliminate this problem. Thanks.

RE: K & N Air Intake System
this is just a guess; buthave you tired tuning your car w/ a tuner? alot of people get a tune/intake combo; which will give you from what ive heard atleast 20 to the wheels.

RE: K & N Air Intake System
All connections, including sensor bracket, have been checked and rechecked. All tight. Emission light still on. Emailed Tech Support at K & N, but have not received their response yet. Will let you all know what the resolution is. My guess is that I'll need some kind of "retune" to accomadate the increase in air flow. I purchased the K & N kit because it wasn't supposed to require a retune to operated properly.

RE: K & N Air Intake System
I've never heard of a problem with a K&N. I have one on my car.
Is your maf sensor clean? It's possible you got oil or dirt on it when reinstalled in the intake. Is iit in backwards? I put mine on a while ago but I seem to remember it could go in backwards. Was the filter heavily oiled? The most common cel from intakes is a dirty maf. Did you hook the pcv up properly?
you absolutely do not need a re-tune with a K&N. something simple is the culprit.

RE: K & N Air Intake System
Just talked with Tech Support at K & N. They recommended the following:
1. Disconnect neg battery cable for 3-4 hours. This will reset the onboard
computer.
2. Reconnect battery cable and start car. Let it idle for 45 minutes so engine
reaches operating temperature. By doing this computer will learn to accept
the increased air flow.
Hope this process addresses the problem.
