Are Mustangs better than any Japanese performance car?

RE: Are Mustangs better than any Japanese performance car?
Lets start off w/ there a difference from a ricer and a japense "sport" car.
Here's my definition of a "ricer":
RICER:
ric·er [rahy-ser]
Noun: A person that is usually under nineteen years old who has a head larger than a 7.0L Z06 engine, who owns an economy built vehicle with modifications such as over sized rims, aftermarket hood, boost gauge(even though there is no force induction modifications found), aftermarket intake, and the popular large exhaust that is similar to a "tin can," which has a similar sound to a low quality lawn mower. The average person who encounters a “ricer” vehicle would assume that it has performance capabilities through its appearance but truly lacks in the performance area.
Synonyms: rice burner, rice, riced out.
Antonyms: sport car enthusiast, smart person, sleeper vehicle, muscle car.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Back to my point that not every Japense sports car is a "ricer", imo the 90s was owned by cars like the 300zx tt, 3000gt vr-4, supra TT, rx-7 TT. It wasnt till the cobra, ls1, ls6's came out that we came back, and did we ever!
It comes down to which kind of car you are looking for, there are ups and downs to every vehicle.

RE: Are Mustangs better than any Japanese performance car?
Here are my thoughts on the current Mustang. I want to remind everyone that I drive an Evo. I plan to buy a Mustang convertible when I am done paying for my Evo next year. I just hope by then they still stick with the retro look.
The current Mustang GT and V6 are the best looking and quickest it has been for a long time. Excluding specials such as Cobras and Bullitts. Remember when the V6's only produced 150hp? Now they produce almost as much power as the V8 from the 80's and 90's. The current Mustang GT runs to 60 in 5 seconds and runs the 1/4 in the 13's. Last time that happened was in 1969, and that was a Mach. Mustangs from the 80's and early to mid 90's were mostly 6 sec. cars with 14-15 1/4's.
As far as looks, well now they look like Mustangs. Before they looked more like Escorts and Tempos. They really didn't look like American muscle like the S197's do. Kind of like how the GTO's look like upgraded Grand Prix's.
Also the Mustang is in a class of its own. What I mean there are no "clone cars". Camaro and Firebird were essentially the same car. In fact the Corvette lends its engine to the Camaro and the GTO. The Mustang has a Mustang engine.
I know this has nothing to do with the thread, but I do own a Japanese car and these are my thoughts on the ponycar which I hope to own in the future.

To answer the question posed, I don't HATE any of those Japanese cars,I actually do respect them for their capabilities. I bought a new '06 Mustang GT, but I wouldn't have even considered buying any of the Japanese cars you mentioned. It's not all about performance, with any of those cars, you can outperform 99% of all other cars you might meet at a light. At that point of diminishing returns, things like styling, reputation, heritage, and brand loyalty become more important. Mustang styling was designed from the ground up to look like one of the fantastic pony cars of yore.Japanese styling is an afterthought, take the economy version, make it a performance beast, and then throw on a spoiler, hood scoop, some decals and badges, maybe some wheels and call it a day. The exception is the350Z; make that one look like a Porsche. No originality, no heritage, nothing....

OMFG Darren, you Buttnut
Talk is cheap, a car that weighs 1000lbs less than your car may well be able to out accelerate you and out corner you. Probably be able to out kill you in a crash too.
Mustang has:
History, who wouldn't love an old one???
performance, duh
exhaust note, v8s rule
styling, almost like having an old one...
Upgradeability, I got a Kenne Bell waiting to give me 450hp at the rubbers, just waiting onthe break in period.
And I think everyone will agree, chicks dig them way over some dopey lookin japanese car. And if your chick doesn't agree with that, go get one that does, mines hot and she loves my mustang.
God Bless,
Sha
