Default RE: rear end

Do some research, but theS197 (GT's atleast)already comes with 31 spline axles. They used tobe 28 spline. Seems like most the guys around here don't get a locker because of the excess tire wear they get from driving the street, noise and the benifits of street driving a limited slip diff (LSD). Look at the Detroit true-track diff. It can hold a bunch more power than the trak-lok from Ford and should last longer. I beleive it uses gears instead of a clutch pack. LSD's seem to be the way to go unless you are building a dedicated drag car that will see the strip often. Which most of us don't.

I have a girdle on mine. Make sure you purchase the correct one. There is one that will n ot slear the panhard bar and one that will. They run about $200. Mine is made by FRPP. I beleive there are a few others that make it too. Some say they are necessary, some say no. I liked the way it looked and when I replace my trak-lok with True-Track, it's just one more thing I won't have to worry about.
