Speaking of the factory hood scoop. I was thinking about painting mine black or buying a black one, and I already have a black spoiler I was going to swap out. Any thoughts on that?

I definately think the black spoiler would tie your stripes together...but then, I'm biased anyway.... Ditto on the black scoop...

Functional?

I thought they were functional. Some of youse guys GTs are too fast. At high speeds, the hood scoop breaks upthe smooth flow of air over the hood causing you to slow down. Safety feature, I think.....kinda like DRLs.

Nope, my hood scoop is just a bolt on. It is purely cosmetic. It serves no purpose other than looking pretty sweet.
I was just kidding.........

i love the looks of the factory hood scoop, but just like you guys i wanted to make it functional. i did some checking into it and it was going to be rediculously expensive and not make anymore power than what a CAI setup already does. i have wondered about it catching a lot of wind and making the hook shake vigorously at hight speeds, but you guys w/o hood scoops said your hoods shook badly too at high speeds so who knows

The aftermarket should come up with a solution for this. Even just some plastic molded piping to get the air to the air box/cai would be acceptable. I'm not expecting huge gains just something functional.

Paint the scoop black man!!!! That is a beautiful Mustang. I really love it when people can pull their cars together to really make it YOUR car. That thing is sweet. Who would of thought white and black could fit together so nicely! Lets see pics when you're done!

If you want heat extraction, the hole is a must, but the scoop would vent better if mounted backwords. While driving, the air moving accross the scoop would pull the heat outwhile alsoventing the hood to reduce the hood dance at 80mph+. I know it sounds a little wierd, but it doesn't look that strange in my head...if the scoop will mount flush in reverse.

I saw this done once with one of the 'new edge' Mustangs in college. The guy had attached a fiberglass ductwork to the undeside of his hood that mated with the factory air box.
