Why not to swerve for a dog on a rainy day!

RE: Why not to swerve for a dog on a rainy day!
I've actually had the displeasure of hitting two dogs, on two separate occasions in two different cars. The first time was in my BOSS 351 doing about 45mph. I tried to swerve, hit him anyway, and he was big, slid off the road across someones lawn barley missed a mailbox and telephone pole. Got some damage to one of the fenders and it ripped my spoiler off that side. Worst thing was going over the lawn ripped my trunk mounted battery loose and I had to run to the trunk and set it back upright fast, I could smell it shorting. I drove home and yanked all the doghair out from between the fender and front headlight frame.
Second time, doing maybe 40, I let off the gas and blasted that bastard across the road and back into his yard. He bounced off and the 84 mustang I was driving suffered no visible damage at all.
NEVER SWERVE, there is a potential for much more damage, you could hit an oncoming car, and still not miss the lil bitch.

i'm a dog lover too...but for god sakes hit the damn dog!!
unless you have a herd of moose sitting in your lane it's always best to stay in your lane and hit the animal... i've seen countless accidents where people end up leaving the road and rolling their car or causing severe bodily injury to themselves or others because they swerved to miss an animal in the road...
speaking of insurance:
you do know that if you HIT the dog it would be a non-fault comprehensive loss (animal strike)
but if you swerve to miss the dog and dont actually hit the animal then it's an at fault collision loss...
...i'm not saying...i'm just saying. :-)

Man... sorry to see your baby all dented.
However - if it were a very big dog, considering how the front is constructed, it would have nearly totaled the front of your car if you hit the dog.
Glad your OK!
