Ok so I was reading motortrend and ran across an add that claimed the K&N CAI for the Shelby GT500 gives it 53 extra horsepower. How is this possible?? oh yea here is the link to K&N to prove I am not full of it

The dyno doesn't lie, or does it? They also claim 15.26 HP gain for the same product (Aircharger) when installed on a 4.6 3V. No mention of tuning. Something that seems curious to me.... K&N shows dyno charts for both theAircharger andfor the Typhoonpolished tube intake installed on an 05 GT. The dyno for the Aircharger shows the stock 05 GT horsepower to max out at 263 while the Typhoondyno chart shows the max HPfor the stock 05 to be 224. One test was run in 2nd gear and the other in 3rd. What would cause thewide variation in the stock HP?

I've always heard that you dyno a car in third gear although I have no clue why. Also the average stock rwhp for a mustang gt should be more like 265-275 if I'm not mistaken. -Andrew

Ok I did a little research and fourth gear is the most common gear to dyno in. But this article also said that it is most critical to dyno in the same gear each time and that its better to dyno in the gear that has the least drivetrain loss. As for the rwhp numbers I'm really not positive. -Andrew

On our trannies, you dyno in 4th because that is the 1:1 gear. In older transmissions, a lot of times (especially in autos), the 1:1 gear is 3rd.

Yeah I was wondering about that ad too. Saw it yesterday, and did not believe it could be possible without a tune.
