black residue on exhaust tips and rear bumper
Hey Folks!
After about a 1000 miles running with a brenspeed tune (91 octane, that's all we have here), I noticed that the inside of my GTA tips was covered with black residue. My rear bumper had some of the black residue as well. I live at about 5000 ft if that matters, we have thinner air here.
Since I loaded the Brenspeed tune a few days after buying the car, I don't know if it's due to the tune. I'm now trying the FRPP tune, but I miss the Brenspeed tune power, and it's too early to tell if the black residue is still there.
Anyone has the same thing happened with a tune? Is that black residue a sign of running too rich, too lean? Something else?

RE: black residue on exhaust tips and rear bumper
im not too sure, but I have a similar problem in that when I put on the cat back exhaust by Magnaflow and put the Xcal 2 tune on there, i noticed that my exhaust tips would get very dark on the inside and out... maybe thats just natural or totally different than your problem... but I would try using a different fuel grade to see if that helps... or check for any leaks?

Brent runs his tunes on the safe side thus they are to the rich side, much better than the lean side, rich=good, lean=bad. Just get some good chrome cleaner and polish the tips.

OK, thanks guys for the quick replies. I'm glad that I'm not the only one to have this issue. Are there any downside effects of running too rich for the long term? Also what chrome cleaner would you recommend, would chrome wheel cleaner do the trick?

Your running rich, this requires some tuning. To much gas for to little air...you'll get more power if you dyno it out and lean it out as well.
Running rich is safer then running lean but if you running real rich you can wash out the cylinder rings...but I highly doubt you are running that rich.
I'd reccommend a dyno setion with a tuner and just make a few adjustment...I bet you'll notice a difference it power when its all said and done.
