Default 12V source to power a gauge

I'm just about ready to install a Auto Meter oil pressure gauge on my GT. The only thing left to figure out is how the heck to power the light?

I did some searches and found this thread that shows some wiring:

http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showthread.php?t=19004

He used the transmission light, which will work, but I understand it will leave the aftermarket gauge a little dimmer than the rest on the dash.

Two questions:

Is there a better 12 V to power the LED in the gauge?
Stupid question: Will wiring the gauge into the starter wire trip the factory alarm? (not for the light, but to power the gauge)

My gauges wired to my lights. As soon as I turn on my lights, even the runners, the gauges come on too. They aren't any dimmer for me at all. And actually, mine are wired to our little switch that allows us to dim the lights in the car. So as I dim/brighten my dash, so do my gauges.

I looked under the dash and found two wiring harnesses running from the module that works the lights. There a lot of wires there.

Which one did you use? I'm trying to cut as few wires as possible.

Black wire with white stripe on back of the dimmer.

Thanks for the help. I went back to the car and easily found the wiring you described. You've just saved me a lot of time and trouble.

I will post back in a week or two when I get time to install everything. I think I'm going to write a thread with pictures in case anyone else wants to do it.

The hardest part has been finding out which wire to use and what piping I should buy. From the looks of it, though, the installation won't be too bad.
