New 2007 GT! And a noobie question...
Hi guys!
Just got my 2007 GT about 3 weeks ago, and I absolutely love it! However, this is probably a real dumb question but I'd love some insight...
I was wondering about undercoating. They never even mentioned it at the dealershup, and since this is my first brand new car I didn't really know how neccessary it was. Talking to friends, some claim I should do it and some claim I shouldn't. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Undercoating is a spray, black in colour, that's applied to the underside of new cars to (I think) protect against rust and premature wear. It's usually offered at the dealership for an extra fee. Maybe it's not even done anymore?

Most of the times it is yet another way for the dealears to make an extra buck, however undercoating might be a good idea if you are very close to the ocean or drive in any kind of salty environmet like those places were they put salt on the roads to avoid ice formation during the winter.
Probably they offer a product like this:

Undercoating was pretty standard back in the 50's-70's, even in the South. Cars weren't as rustproof as they are today, and the undercoating was needed to prevent the frames and floor pans from rotting away, especially in northern locations where salted roads are a problem. But cars of today are much better protected from rust and corrosion and I doubt that undercoating has much value anymore. My dealer wanted to sell me the paint sealer and undercoating as a package which I refused. I haven't had undercoating on any vehicle I have owned since the 70's and I have had zero problems with underbody corrosion. However, I live in southeastern Virginia where snow is almost a thing of the past........

Here in Canada where snow, ice, and salt are a reality undercoating is pushed heavily still but we have lots of rust buckets on the road that have been undercoated, so I would say it is a farce!! but I do like it for sound deadning!!
