When should I switch to synthetic?

RE: When should I switch to synthetic?
I may be wrong, but I thinkI just read somewhere that both Vipers and Corvettes now come from the factory with Mobil 1 already installed. So wouldn't that kind of imply that no break-in mileage is really necessary?

RE: When should I switch to synthetic?
I'm a Redline Oil fan, for years and thousands of miles. Talked to Redline, they recomended at least 4k miles. Talked to Ford guy, he said something about special rings and they need time to break in and didn't seem to like synthetic oil. Don't trust him. I'm a Tufoil believer. Talked to them, they said DO NOT run their product till 5k miles, cause it REALLY reduces engine wear. Also they said to run a 10% mix in my 5 Spd.
I came to pass that I had to add a quart at around 3k miles. Put in Redline. Made happy to have some in their. At 4.6k miles I changed over to Redline and Tufoil in both engine and trans. Was not totally happy!

No but I do. More to change the filter than being worried about the oil.
New synthetics have an amazing resistance to 'break down' compared with dino oils. Bet you'll find a range of advice here. I've seen some people talk about getting 10k-12k out of a synthetic.
I'd start needing to breathe through a paper bag when I got to 5K.

RE: When should I switch to synthetic?
My dealer uses synthethic and I have mine changed every 5000. I just started adding Tufoil with my last oil change. I did the research and its a great additive. I'm going to useTufoil in my 03 V6 with the next oil change.

RE: When should I switch to synthetic?
OK, should you change the weight when you have a supercharger? just added the Saleen and I was wondering if I need to change the oil weight. I have always changed with synthetic since I bought the car with 4000 miles on her....what about the oil weight when supercharged
