As most of your driving will be on the street,a Detroit locker is a little more interested in you track days. Is it livable? Yes, but there will be very little doubt that you have one if you go that way. It is very close to a 'spooled' rear (locked). I have had a few of them in some of my yesterday toys. Both of my current go fast Fords have them todaybut I don't street one of them and will put up with the almost locked rear in the roadster. They are bullet proof (never destroyed one) butthey tend to be a little rude for a mostly street driven car. Livable yes. Fun on the street?Depends on what you deem acceptable.

Detroit TrueTrac, the Locker is pretty for strip-only use, your rear outsidewheel will "skip or bounce" when negotiating a turn at excessive speeds, as both rear wheels rotate at the same speed at all times.

+1 on the true trac. When I destroy what I have it will be replaced with a true track.

They do the 'locker dance' at slow cornering speed as well. You can almost park on a hill with the front wheels turnedand need not worry about the car rolling away. Go for the 31 spline axles if you go for the locker.

S197 GTs already have 31 spline axles, but it wouldn't hurt to put higher quality 31 splines in.......

+2 on the true trac. Probably a "next year" item on my list.

One day I'm going to throw this trutrac in. Its been sitting on my bedroom floor for 5 months now. Maybe that with a new set of 4.10s will quiet thing down a bit as well as help with traction.

Hmmmm I thought they were similar to an ARB air locker, in which case a compressor is used to pneumatically lock the diff and when unlocked they act as an open diff(i.e. a peg leg) and only one wheel drives the car...... I could be wrong though[&:]
