Thanks. So it's a bit higher at 70mph than I had calculated. I'm going to setup an appointment to get mine installed in June. I might be going to a 28 inch tall tire in the rear when it's time for new ones and definately a 28 inch drag radial for the track. Top speed doesn't concern me in the least, i'd just like to get to 100mph as quickly as possible without spending an *** load of money on a blower which may break my rods.

Ditto - smart man. One of the few I've seen here who understands the importance of tire height to gear ratio. [sm=icon_cheers.gif]
So many threads on 'what gears are best' and hardly ever see mention of tire height in any of them.
moose - good call [sm=icon_cheers.gif]- the 28" will be the ***** best for street and strip with your set-up. I really like the Nitto 555R 305/45/18 out back for the street.

someone explain the bigger tire theory please?
someone explain the bigger tire theory please?
In relation to gears the tire height is important because of rotation. The lower the height of the tire, the more rpm it's going to take to turn it a rotation. The taller the gear, the taller you want the tire. 4.10's may spin 3200 rpms at 60 on 26" tires yet only spin 2800 rpm at 60 on a 28" tire.
This is exactly why your speedometer becomes off and needs to be retuned to be accurate when you change gears because the tire height and gear ratio also effect MPH.

'Bigger' is not correct and the mistake most people make when they think about tires. Most people think it is width that is important for hook. Height is much more important. The height of a tire determines the 'footprint' the tire makes when hooking. In drag racing at all levels, the pros are never looking at how 'wide' a tire they can go. They are always looking at how 'tall' a tire they can go and then they get the widest they can to match the height.

So there is some difference between the stock and automatics' . Interesting.

I think I am going to do it as well. I mentioned once in previous post that I put 4.30's in my old Fox body and I lost alot of my top end. Someone mentioned to me at a speed shop that the old carsand new ones behave totally differently as I see here. 140 is reachable w/ 4.10's where I couldn't reach 120 with my fox. I drove my friends 06 w/4.10's and intake/tune/throttle body combo. WOW!!!! I think it seems to be a worthwhile mod especially coupled w/ my JLT and bama tune combo. I see a 250 rpm for every 5 mph tren going on there.
