If it's pinging on 87 you have a problem. If they tell you to run 93 tell them you want it in writing then call FoMoCo

It only will what I think is ping when shifting into third and sometimes second on hard accel. which they say is normal, but with high octane the car runs better no sound on shift and they also said they can't adjust other than flash which I have the latest, also that the computer will advance timing to adjust to high octane and not cause carbon build up?? Maybe I need to get a tune from SCT?? But the car runs stronger and smoother on 93 believe me!!

It depends.
With the mandated ethanol blends in my state, I found last year there was a significant variability from one tank to the next (even from the same station) when running 87. Sometimes it'd run just fine, other times I'd get a slight pinging under moderate acceleration.
So I've been running 89 for about the past 6-7 months without issue.
I had mine in at the dealer a few months ago for something (don't recall what), and talked to one of the techs about it. He advised that they've been seeing alot of complaints about this very issue and that running 89 regularly should be fine. With respect to carbon fouling he said that it would likely not be an issue with 89 as much as it may be with 93. Even then, occasionally opening it up to help burn off any excess should take care of any buildup, if any were to occur.
So that led in to my question about getting a custom tune and he just grimaced a little and shook his head.[&o]

MINE pings too. I go to 89 octane when stock tune and it stopps. On my tuner, I run 87 tune with 93 octane. Runs perfect !

Stupid Crappy Gas!!

Here in Calif. we have crap fuel to supposedly cut down on emissions output which is so asinine it is pathetic. The fuel we make you get worse mileage than the stuff in other states so we technically are using more fuel. So lets see the output of emission is lower but were burn 1/3 more fuel so how does that save emissions when it take you more gas to go the same distance if using another gas. Stupid Politicians and Environmentalists.

I dont know about the 05-07 mustangs but ingeneral using the stock tune with the higher octane doesnt really bu you anything except a fuel bill that explodes exponentialy.

$0.20 more per gallon, never have seen the higher octane give me better gas milage or anything else except a bigger gas bill. Of course I havnt tried it yet in my GT.
