Default New Exhaust & Tune

Thought I'd share an air/exhaust combo you don't commonly find. Or at least people don't advertise it.

My first mod was a k&n cai since I couldn't afford a tune or other stuff at the time.

After 9 months I finally got a setup I like. Iput on MRT's high flow H. Ran that for one month with stocks, sounded really good but wasn't deep enough. So I then got a set of MBRP axle backs. Canadian company that launched a new axleback for our cars. Then through a friend at Ford I got a SCT Xcal 2 + three custom tunes for pretty cheap.

The car has an incredibly deep sound to it. I've heard Aeroturbines, Borla, Corsa, FRPP,somewith O/R X and H configs, and this is every bit as deep. Plus a little different. Very little to no drone. With all the three basic mods done, there is a impressive boost of power, plus its pretty easy to break loose in 3rd gear now. I'm amazed I got even 20k out of my stock tires.

Damn sound really nice man. I was thinking of getting that cold air intake also since i dont have the money to buy both at the same time. Where did you pick up the K&N CAI? and how much?

I bought it from my dad. He had it on his 06 GT auto. Apparently it didn't work well with a auto and no tune. The car would hesitate on accelleration. I think he got for $200 off of ebay. But I've seenguys in here sell em for around $150 used. As long as its in good shape, nothing wrong with a used one. Your wallet would be happier.

The K&N seems to get a lot of -1 comments, meaning not being as capable as other brands. Its nice cause it doesn't require a tune. But with a custom tune written for it, the gains compared to other tunes andcai kitsseems to bemarginal. I would have to imagine it not being much difference, like aX vs H pipe. Yes X makes more power, but somewhere between 1-10 hrp, would you really notice it?

Cost is a huge factor for me. Used exhaust and air componets, if in good shape can be a real cost saver. I got my MRT H for $365 with the O2 extenders. It would have cost me over $500 for it brand new so I bought used. So the409 steelhad a little tarnish to, other than that, perfect. Shop around for the K&N, you'll find some deals on here.

I don't get that, why the 07's are slightly different than the 05/06. I had problems with my shaker 500, they replaced the radio 4 times. I asked if they could take one from a 07 on the lot and they stated the plugs were different, yet essentially its the same car.

I work at Ford and product decisions like this just baffles me.

I agree they're minor, but would bug the hell out of me too. But then again they A: a Ford, and B: a 25k car. Just from my experience the quality doesn't seem to be that "quality" till you start spending around the 30k+ segment. I got mine for $24,600 so I'm keeping my mouth shut. I hit the gas and my woes go away.

BTW, speaking of bugging me, I pride myself on having a yellow GT, simply cause there are not that many for 05/06. So anytime I see another yellow GT I usually glare at, admiring what appearance choices they went with. The other day I seen one, plain, no stripes, but he removed the facotry spoiler and put one of those GIGANTIC wings on the back. I honestly think it was higher than the roofline. WTF! I know everyone has a different view on what looks good my god, why why why why why why why why?

Don't mean to bash someone else's idea of taste, but that it angers me.
