I honestly thing the best sounding mufflers is no mufflers. SLP, Boom Tubes, or even having your local exhaust guy just do muffler deletes sound the meanest. It it loud but not too loud, and it definitely had a deep tone.
I get compliments on mine like this all the time. And yeah - sometimes I get the popping which is a little backfire but these cars are running rich from the factory stock anyway so thats to be expected. In Colorado it'snot whether you have mufflers or not, it's whether you've modified your exhaust to make it louder than OEM. So you just stay below 3k rpms when 5-0 is around

Its a preference when it comes to this...everyone with SLP's will say they are the best...
I would def thnk about stepping about the basic Flowmaster or Magna flow...everyone has those...get something a little throatier...

and your right...sounds clips do it NO justice at all...

I put mine on and love them, perfect noise and they are getting better and better as they are being worn in...2 months and 10,000km...yes, alot of driving...and they sound better than the day i put them on.

**(I went with Corsa...i'd recommend them, but then there'd be a fight about how they are too expensive for what you get...i won't change them for anything and my buddies with stangs wish they had gone with them rather than what they have...)**

Another option is the axleback kits from www.mbrp.com

I had their 2nd Gen exhaust on my focus, and it sounded AWESOME....NO RICE! I'm thinking about getting the set with the tubular mufflers, which will sound more aggressive, and yet look better on the rear of the car too...

Also, the Magnflow 3" Magnapack sounds killer...sounds like an oldschool stang...

Just giving you some more options...

Agleon,
If you want the backfire, tune your car so it is running rich...

all the backfiring is is the gases that arent burnt in the cylinder are burning in the exhaust system...
you'd have to either pull the EGR valve out too or bypass it somehow for a constant pop...
