And what would be the difference between a CAI and simply taking the cover off my stock air box?

I hear the stock rubber collapses with air going into the trottle body and restricts your air flow. As far as the heat shield is concerned...I have mine on.

I have never seen anyone recommend running a CAI without the heat shield....

No heat shield = Sucking in the hot air from the engine compartment.

Heat shield = Getting cooler air from the outside from the fender area that is sealed off from the rest of theengine compartment.

But im probably wrong and im sure someone here will let me know..............

It ain't a CAI without the shield. With no shield, it wouldbe a WAI.

right 07gt...you would suck in alot of hot air without the shield, thats why under the description of the intake,it always reads that the shield is there to prevent engine robbing heat from getting in your intake.

Running a Cold Air Intake without a heat shield is like airing down your street raidals to 15psi and doing a big burnout with them. A total waste of time.
