So at my next oil change I want to switch to a full synthetic. I called Mobil 1 and asked what they recommended for my car. They said to use the 5W20 Mobil 1 full synthetic (Change every 10,000 miles)or the Mobil 1 entended performance full synthetic (Change every 15,000 miles). My next question was ok, well... what filter should I use, and obviously I will have to change the filter every 3-5K miles. The tech said no, just change the oil and filter at the same time. He advised me these two oils meet Ford WSS-M2C930-A standards, so they will NOT void the warranty (I did double check this afterwards).

So my next question was- How the heck can these same filters that are being used with other oils and are being replaced after 3-5K miles last 10K-15K miles? He said this oil doesnt cause the sludge and break down like other oils do, so there is no need to replace the filter. Now, I would say that they are full of sh**, however he recommended a mobil 1 filter, so if they were smart and trying to make money, they would say yea, replace the filter every 3-5K miles.

He also pointed out that Mobil- 1 full synthetic oils are being used in some higher end cars right from the factory- such as corvettes, cadillacs, VW, and some others, and that they recommend only changing the oil every 7-10K miles.

So, I am going to go full Synthetic, the question is, how long is it safe to leave one of these 10-15K mile oils in?

I use synthetic and still change every 3,000 miles. It may be excessive, but, it makes me feel better.

I change every 5K miles. If your car is still under warranty, I wouldn't go any longer than 5K between changes. After warranty you could probably easily go 10K-15K miles, but I'd change filters at least every 5K miles.

I change my Mobil 1 and filter (non Mobil 1) every 7500 miles in my DD Suv's without ever an issue, but with my Stang I'm very over zealous and change it every 2-3 months. This usually comes out to be only about 2,000 miles. I change it again before winter storage too. I really just enjoy taking care of it.

I use the Mobil 1 5w20 with Motorcraft Filter and change every 5K

If you want to stretch the oil change intervals to 10k I would at the very least change the filter at 5k and then top off. Call Mobil 1 back and ask him for a written warranty that if the motor has a oil related failure by using his guidelines will Mobil 1 pay for all repairs. Because I assure you whenFord asks to see proof of your oil and filter changes every 5k and you show them you waited until 10k they will void your warranty.
