Default Anyone remove mufflers and go straight pipe w/tips?

I have a completly stock 05GT and am considering pulling the stock mufflers out and having an exhaust shop straight pipe where the mufflers were (axle back)..all the other parts of the system would stay..Anyone do this??

How loud is it..I would think with the cats still in place it wouldn't be too bad.

Can you buy this already done by some shop?

you can buy em online there called slp loudmouth axel backs but im sure you could have em done by a muffler shop too, they will probaly to cheaper from the shop but the slp's you can do your self. as for loudness i have the slp's and they are not too loud, actualy i think they could be louder, the only other problem i can see with the muffler shop is it still may sound like **** if the pipes are the same size as the rest of the exhaust(the slp's are 3 1/2 4 inches from the tip to about a foot back and then they neck back down to stock size) but maybe not idk. what i do know is before i put on the slp's i started it just to see what it sounded like and it sounded way to unrefined you could always look around seems like there is always someone selling there slp's

And a $376 price tag,

It sounds a lot like SLP LM's. There is an extremely annoying rattle though, because the pipes aren't secured toward the back and shake around.

Went to midas they will do the muffler delete for $100 then I am going to weld the old tips from mufflers on most likely. We will see how it sounds I guess. I'm also having them reuse all the exhaust hangers so no rattle should be present.

Anyone have any sound clips of this setup?

I did this technique on my car. I bought some 4 inch rolled stainless tips for about $15 each and then brought them to a muffler shop to have them put on. I cut the pipe right before the mufflers so I could use the stock clamps and so that this system can come off and on in my garage. I also used the stock hanger locations. I think it cost me a total of $85 for install and tips. I guess I saved about $300 from the SLP's, and I get the same sound and the tips I wanted.

Also to answer the question about being unrefined, I also drove around for a couple days with the stock mufflers off and leaving the over-axle pipes dangling. It was loud and very unrefined. BUT, once they finished off the exhaust, it sounds much better. I can't say I'd put the stock tips back on though.....why not make it look good and buy some nice stainless ones somewhere.

I hope this muffler delete you speak of isn't them just unbolting the stock axleback and sending you on your merry way. You could do that yourself in about 15 minutes.

why not add twin resonators in place of the stock mufflers and add tips, I've been pondering doing this. I've seen the resonators they use ontheHemisat the muffler shop in about a 14 inch length.
I wonder if it would work???????/

That rattle is the rod welded on the tip that goes through the hanger. It is probably vibrating against the body behind the bumper and needs to be moved forward a little.Myself and a few other had that problem.
