I only have 500 miles on mine and it is on its 3rd tank and all most out.. just doesn't seem right to me. isn't the 3v motor supposed to be more fuel efficient.
It takes gas to make hp...

I don't have the 4 gauge cluster or the info center to tell me how many miles to the gallon i am getting. i am using actual miles drove as an indicator on the miles per tank. still breaking it in so i am not heavy footed yet.
(off topic sort of)...Ford recommends "varying engine speed" during break-in...I read this as "take it up to 6000rpm after it's at norm. op. temp." If your engine hasn't seen the mid and high rpms during break-in, it may not be ready after your arbitrarily determined break-in period is over...if you drive like a granny for 1-2K miles, then start winding it out, it may be a shock to the system. Not trying to start a flame war and maybe some think I'm way wrong on this, but IMO you should break it in like the same way you're gonna drive it, just make sure it's warmed up first...

I don't know how you guys drive, but how the hell do you average 18-20 mpg in the city?! It must just be me but I can't keep my foot off the gas which means I get around 15. Even when I feel like I'mtaking it easy I might see17 if I'm lucky. As for the highway 21 is the best I've hadbecause of all the 3rd gear passesI make .

in my GTA i see 20 mpg combined. city it ranges from 17 to 19, highway i get 25-26 w/cruise. if you take it easy in the city and you're not rocking out of the gate every time you can easily see 22.

then again, why would anyone not drive it like they stole it?

I now have 21k miles on my '07 GT vert. I do mostly highway driving. My lowest is 22mpg. My highest is 35(never went over 55 on that trip). Average is 26-28 for me. I have 3.31 rearend. And I don't really romp on it much. I get about 390 miles out of a tank. Oh yeah, I use 89 octane on the stock tune. It does better on this.

I heard of the variable engine speed and have gotten on it a few times, up to 5500 rpms. now i know why i gotout of the 4.0L. these cars are a blast. just wanted to know if the miles per tank was that low or ifi needed to take it into the shop to have the fuelpump inspected..

Man, I read this and just can't believe it. I do all in-city driving. A few lights here and there to/from work and I average a whopping 16.8 (that was the highest ever)and with the A/C on this summer around 16.1mpg. The 16.8 mpg was using lots of 5th gear, and babying her just to see if it would make a big difference.

I did notice a slight improvement during break-in as I started in the 15.5mpg range and after 1000miles on the car it went up about 1mpg........Bottom line, I hear people saying 20mpgwith their GTs in city and I'm like what? Not doubting you all, but man, my car runs real strong so I do not think there is fuel problem, etc.......... I guess the EPA "sticker" says 17 and 25 mpg city/highway....I've read youcan take another 10% off of that since the OEMs are taking this mileage with apparently a tailwind and downhill LOL. And voilla......there is my 16mpg.....

I'll be on the lookout for those "coasting downhill" and throw her in the neutral 1/2 mile before the intersection opportunities. But my STANG brothers and sisters.... there is so much rice, noodles and brachtwurst out there to enjoy...know what I mean. LOL

+1 on smoking ricers. they still want to run with me knowing they will not be able to keep up. they used to give me a problem racing in the 6er but not anymore. all they willsee is taillights.
