New Gear Installation Price?
Hey guys,
How much did you pay to get your gearsinstalled for? I have a friend that works in a body shop who will give me a discount for doing it, I just want to make sure he's not ripping me off or anything.
Thanks
Oh, and I'm thinking of upgrading my automatic to 3:73's, which I hear is just right for it. Also, will I lose a ton of gas mileage?

RE: New Gear Installation Price?
You're going to receive responses with numbers from $50 to $600 (quoted by my local dealer) for labor to install the new gears. Be careful here and do a search on this or any other Mustang forum; you'll see a multitude of posts complaining about problems (mainly gear whine). Quite often the problem is that the install was done on a cheapo basis by a friend of a friend's brother-in-law. I would only deal with a reputable shop that's done many ring/pinion setups. Expect to pay a bit more, but get someone who 1) has experience and 2) will stand behind the job.

$360, that was for labor and a new inner pinion bearing and race. Rolland's automotive in Gainesville, Fl did the install and they did a good job and finished in the time they said they would. No whine.

I was quoted 400-500 and got out the door for 400 (I supplied all parts and shop supplies etc)...yes 3.73s are the hot setup for slushboxes, and the smile factor > any lost mpg...
