1/4 mile auto shifting

RE: 1/4 mile auto shifting
My wife and I were on our way to see my dad, when we ran up on a 02/03 GT,
After eating his lunch three times, I had to beg him for "one more run",
Trying to be "Mr. Shifter" on the light, I missed a gear and got my clock cleaned !!!
Dont know which was worse, losing the race or,
Hearing my wife say,"told ya so.."

RE: 1/4 mile auto shifting
I shift my auto at 7000 rpm...
But then again, my auto is a 4r70...lol
To answer your question... no. Get a custom tune and have your shift points matched to your power curve is your best bet. If you don't already have it, get a good TC like the PI mutli disc and you will be shocked with the results...

It seems like there isnt a "shift gate"<correct me if needed>
or something, that will keep you from skipping a gear on your way up ?
o.k., now i step aside for the auto-haters to come along with,
"why didnt you buy a 5-speed ?"
remember, we are family my brothers

RE: 1/4 mile auto shifting
I turn o/d off because if it is left in 4th gear (before it goes into o/d), I am still getting power. The o/d is our 5th gear, which is a cruising gear to help w/gas mileage. You will have more power staying in 4th gear, correct me if I'm wrong. My buddy's '91 lx 5.0 has an aod tranny and as soon as it hits o/d, the power just dies. I just turn mine off to be safe.

With driving 1/8 or a 1/4 mile race, it really shouldnt have the chance to hit o/d, but why even give it a chance to hit it. That's why I'm saying you should just turn it off so you don't have that chance of it shifting into o/d and slowing you down. When I race, t/c and o/d are both turned off.
