Long Tube Header Install Question

Long Tube Header Install Question
I have read about with some long tubes you need to remove part of the steering setup. to those of you who have installed then, which type do you have? and did you have to do this? was it difficult? I am currently deciding between the american racing due to wanting the H-pipe vs. dynateck due to price. from the pics it looks like the AR ones have a gap between pipes so this one might need to, but the dynateck tubes are all together so it looks like it would not. any help would be appreciated. thanks

RE: Long Tube Header Install Question
I did not install my LT headers, but in the instructions it says to remove the steering column and starter. I read sometime in the recent past that you only have to remove the steering column. I think it was mexgt who said that. because it is a tight fit. I thought I would reply since no one has done so yet.

RE: Long Tube Header Install Question
I did the Dynatechs on mine, Slp's and A/R's on others. They are all basically the same as far as installing. You pull the steering rod and take a bolt of the rack and pinion to slide it forward a touch. The starter is in the way and needs to come out. To give you an idea, it took about 3.5 hours on all of them with the car on a drive on lift.

RE: Long Tube Header Install Question
I installed the Kooks on mine and did not have to remove or unbolt the steering shaft. I've also got a g-trac brace and did not have to remove that either. I did take the starter out.
