Need more top end horsepower for the GT
Hello,
I am new here, but wanted to ask some advice for getting some more top end power out of my 2006 Mustang GT. So far I have added a large BBK CAI and a retune using a Diablo Predator. The retune made a big difference, eliminating the lean condition and check engine light and improved throttle response.
However, this morning on the way to work I was out-run by a heavily modified 1995 Mazda Rx7 twin turbo. It wasn't a lot but he pulled away on the top end and it kinda pissed me off.
He had the typical fart-can muffler and a 4-inch diameter mid-pipe from what I could see behind.
My question is how can I add another 20 or 30 HP to my mid- to - top end without spending a bundle and voiding my warranty, or is this even possible?
Many thanks...

not gonna happen without spending, but u can come close,
charge motion delete plates
under drive pulleys
and get a mail order tune from one of the popular tuners, brenspeed, bamachips, VMP, evolution, should get you started
oh, and welcome to the forums

Depends what you think a "bundle" is. For another 30 hp you'll need a full exhaust (long tube headers, mid-pipe, and mufflers), a gear would help too, like a 4.10 (that won't add HP, but it will help acceleration). You'll need to get it custom tuned on a dyno to get the full potential. You're probably looking at another ~$2000 including labor - less if you do it yourself.
edit: yeah, and what Burnsy said

Thanks for the tips... I think I will go the exhaust route... I don't really want to get into adding delete plates and underdrive pulleys etc. Had enough grief from the dealer just with adding the BBK cold air intake.
Has anyone had any success with an aftermarket throttle body? I thought I read somewhere an article where a stock 05 GT had a CAI and the BBK throttle body added, and just from that they dyno'd it at 328 RWHP...
Cheers

RE: Need more top end horsepower for the GT
Our Mustang's biggest culprit for lack of top end is the gearing, 5th gear is pretty useless with the stock final drive gearing. A change to 3.90's and lower(meaning higher numerically) will assist in getting the car to sing better above 120mph(after that aerodynamics play a big factor and mega hp is needed to push the car through the air). Changing your gears will help more than adding an exhaust system, although adding both will give best results.

Shorter gears are the cheapest way to improve acceleration time. Remember, speed is not always about horsepower, and our cars have a lot going against them from the factory. Fortunately, we have just about the most comprehensive aftermarket available to fix all the wrong that Ford has wrought.
