My buddy has a dodge viper and claimed to have raced a shelby 500 today, and he claimes to have destroyed it. He was rubbing it in my face saying the shelby 500 was faster than my GT. It got me wondering if a stock Shelby would be faster than a 500 horse(flywheel) supercharged GT?

The shelby is heavier and assuming it's stock then you'd probably have an edge.

many modded GTs are faster than the GT500, no question about it, it doesnt even take 500HP to do it

+1...GT500's are fatasses...I think a GT with 430 to the engine is capable of taking a GT500 as long as the GT has the right mods to do it...gears, etc...

I raced my brother who has a stock GT500....my car tore his up..so much so that he is now trying to do everything to maximise his...which that is the kicker...he will get further and more out of his before he is at breaking point on his stock internals than I could with mine. Ultimately he is now building his to beat my GT (Sibling rivalry) but I should hopefully solve that this spring when I go north to pick up my GT500 from my dad....that is if my dad is willing to part with it.......we will see......

Yes, btw gt500's can gain 100 hp with an intake, and tons more with pulleys, so it has it's advantages

There is no doubt that a GT 500 can be hopped up to beat a supercharged GT, but I was just wondering how bad I might get beat racing a Viper? or would it be close? apperently the viper cleaned house on the 500, and I have no idea if the 500 was stock or not.

the 08s with 600hp i think would rip you one but i think you would still lose to the 500hp one but not by much

it would depend on the year and the driver. early-mid 90s ran low 13s while the late 90s and early 00s ran mid-low 12s. when the 03s (srt 10s) came out they ran high 11s...like i said, the driver can make or break a fast car
