Supercharger Self Installation Experiences
Hello All,
I am looking for stories about self installation of supercharging systems on the S197. I am planning on getting the HO Whipple or the Saleen system after the first of the year and planning on installing it myself.
I am wondering if people also upgraded other things at the same time, like the engine pulleys or the intake rails. Seems like a good idea at the time because you will have things apart anyway.
Just looking to learn from other experiences. Is anything other than hand tools required? I've looked over the install manual of the Whipple and it seems like a lot, but not too complicated.
thanks.

You'll need a fuel rail removal tool, hose clamp pliers, 3/8" impact gun, a bunch of stainless steel hose clamps (ditch the stock ones), a breaker bar, a soldering gun/iron, extra heat shrink tubing is a good idea too, and a good friend.Everything else a descent do-it-yourselfer should already have in their tool box.
You'll need a minimum of one extra person to help if you're installing the Saleen, it's very heavy and will be next to impossible to lift and position by yourself. Even with one extra person I crushed my fingers!!

no, not anythingspecific....
just get psyched and get 'er done
breaking the job up into small manageable segments,
makes it less tedious and a little more enjoyable...

I installed the Saleen S/C last year. The instructions were very detailed. I had ZERO problems. It was really pretty easy, just took a little longer than most mods I have done. I did it all myself except my 75year old dad helped me place the blower on the motor. Just take your time and be very organized. I put all my stock parts (bolt, screws, etc.) in plastic bags and labeled the contents. You will be pulling off a lot of the stock parts so you want to label them so you know where to put them back on. Besides the tools mentioned above, a set of ratchet wrenches were very handy. I also used a ratchet with a flexible extension to reach some hard to reach bolts. The Saleen instructions gives you a detail list of the best tools to use.
You won't regret putting it on yourself. You will learn enough about it to be able to troubleshoot problems in the future. Good luck.

it helps to have a very basic idea about how
things work on the car.
reading and following the install manual, is the
most important item tho.
the install time can range from 12 hours to several
days.....
