Default 3 Valve Swap

Hey I have a question about the new 3 valve motor compared to the pre04 motors. I own a 67 and people commonly do 5.0 EFI swaps, and 4.6 swaps are becoming more common but I haven't heard anybody doing the 3 valve swap. I was trying to do some fact finding. What is the difference between the older 4.6 and new 3 valve motor other than the obvious ones, the different heads and variable valve timing, or are there none? What are the installation differences?

I have seen that swap before, that was a really awesome car. Making old work with new insides is always interesting, but making new work with old is rarely seen. This is another interesting swap http://www.stangnet.com/Ford-Mustang...om-071022.html

all the 4.6 motors should bolt in the same the new 3 valve 4.6 is aluminum and it's the strongest block yett so i am told...... but if you want a 4.6 that you can jack out of this world buy an 03-04 cobra motor....

the 3v is a great motor, but honestly if your gonna go through the trouble of a swap, theres better options. plus the 3v has so much more computer/tuning issues to sort out when swapping.

If you did something like this, you would definitely want a donor car. That way, you have all the harnesses and computers. You can find these cars easily on the auctions. Even the New Edge bodies. Just do some research, and some looking to see what you find.

There is a guy in gainesville (florida) who has a SN95 body cobra with a Termi power plant, built Mach 1 5-spd and rear... nice car... to much money for buying it built already, but just an idea.

Well I think it isnt a bad swap if you had a donor car or got the motor for a good price. One plus is that it is a drive by wire throttle so you dont have to custom make a linkage, it is all in the code. You would have to swap over the gas peddle to and the wiring harness but and recent Fuel Injected swap would mean alot of work with the wiring so I dont think it would be any worse.

Plus as stated I have heard the 3V block quoted as good to about 1000hp so it is pretty bullet proof. And I think there is more aftermarket support for the 3V than there has been since the 302. Mod motors dont respond as well to heads and cam stuff but there are a few different things available but the number of power adders is insane, Plenty of superchargers and turbo's to choose from that could make a really sick streetable restomod.

Personally if I was looking to do a similar swap I would be on the hunt for an 03-04 cobra but if a nice 3V came along I would bite. Plus its nice to be different.

Just my 2 cents

Oh and your avatar is great

+1
Anytime you put newer technology in an older car you're asking for higher stress levels

The 3V is the most finicky engine I've ever dealt with. Every time I torque a bolt, I need to retune the car, lol. It would be difficult, but if you pulled it off, it would be awesome.
