STS Turbo Kit

RE: STS Turbo Kit
I took a look at the kit, but I have to believe that shoving a ton of hot air right into the engine can't be a good thing...my guess is that once they tack an intercooler onto the kit the cost will jump up to where most of the other kits are priced at especially with tuning added on with injectors...I still think that with the upgraded turbo i got with tuning and injectors it was pretty sweet for the price...the remote mount temps without intercooling were running around 130*F which isn't terrible and my guess is that the kit you posted is probably a lot higher than that...You would definitely want an ethanol kit with that setup...I am definitely considering one with mine in leu of the intercooler to cool things down a bit...

RE: STS Turbo Kit
STS makes a great air to air intercooler. They actually don't make it and I forget who does, my receipt is somewhere. You need to find out what spring you have in the waste gate. Mine has a 5 lbs spring that actually makes 6.2-6.4 psi. I added gauges and custom exhaust stuff, boost controler etc etc. The bulk of the turbo componets I bought came in around $5,500. It's amazing how much all the little things add up to. The more you add them more labor you incur.
STS does have tuning available through them. They prefer using a diablo tuner with a MAFIA.
I have to say I am very pleased overall with the turbo. STS advertises 550 BHP and I have to say they areprobably right on. Other turbos running in the 8-9 psi range made by HP, Hellion, Powerhouse and turbonetics all advertise the same or similiar #s. The shop that did mine did a HP kit and got 460 hp and 480 tq. A buddy of mine has the STS kit with twin turbos putting out 460 and 502 tq. Both were putting out 9 psi. Mine reads 9.1-9.4, sometimes higher, so after the getting back up to the front it probably drops to 9 +-.

RE: STS Turbo Kit
So you are saying the shoving hot air into the car is a good idea? I don't disagree having the turbo up front is better for efficiency, but shoving hot air into the car isn't going to make a lot of power and will create problems with detonation...

RE: STS Turbo Kit
What androdz is saying is the THP kit will make more hp than the STS kit at the same boost level because it is much more efficient with the turbo not all the way in the rear. The THP kit will probably make the same hp as the STS kit on about 2# less boost because of it’s effieiency. There isn’t any need for an intercooler or water meth injection at these boost levels. If you start getting into the 9# range you will need to add an intercooler or water meth.
