I know this is getting old...
But ever since I saw that 93 here in NJ is 3.25 a gallon (about two weeks so far), I've said f-it and reflashed to brenspeed's 87 with a tank full of 87
Honestly, compared to the 93, my 87 feels like i'm pulling an anchor... I can tell.
Now I realize that I do mostly city driving, and by the time I get to my destination the engine hasn't even reached its operating temp, but I did 38 miles on 87 and used almost a quarter of a tank...
I normally got around 18 mpg in the cold with the 93 tune, but I seem to get much worse with the 87...
Do you find this to be true? Did gas get reformulated again because usually in the summer ethanol percentages are increased to reduce smog, but in the winter less is used...which should improve mileage...

If you've not even run 1 full tank of 87 I'd say you haven't gotten an accurate idea. I'd run at least 2 or 3 tanks to see for sure. Are you getting on it with the 87 to see how it pulls? If so, you're skewing the data.

As a practical matter, the difference between the cost of 87 vs 93 is probably much less than you think. Assuming 87 goes for $3 vs the $3.25 for 93, and assuming you're driving 900 miles per month (based on your statement, it sounds like your daily commute is pretty short), the 93 will cost you an extra $15/mo. So you just need to decide if $15/mo is worth it. Also, since most people report improved mpg with the 93 tune, me included, that would offset the $15 somewhat, so even $15 is probably on the high end.

grow up. I filled my car with 93 at the tune of 3:50 a gallon and I live in NY so its a couple of miles away from you.
I see a definite difference between the 93 and 87 gas with not tune. I get better economy with 93 period. I tried to switch to 87 and economy is **** poor.
To me I end up spending the same amount I do on 87 as I do on 93 per mile. SO why not go for better gas.

This may sound like a dumb question but I will ask anyways... Is it a bad idea to switch between 87 and 93 often? I would like to use 93 all the time but the rest of the family fefuses to put 93 in and goes back to 87 when someone else fills it up. The car is stock.

No its not bad for the stang at all. Flashed or non-tuned,
If it is tuned, tune it to the octane.
I think I will switch, I do not throttle my baby at all, I've been good. It just doesn't pull like it used to
