Morning Lifter/Bearing Knock 2007 GT 6000 Miles
I have a 2007 Dark Alloy GT and in the mornings the car makes a sound like the lifters or the bearing is rattling around in the motor. This only occurs for the first 10-15 minutes of operation and the noise then goes away. Dealer says to give an extra minute to warm up before heading out in the morning, but I don't have time to start my car and let it run, especially since my car is not visible from my house where I park. They said the engine is operating as normal... I think for a 2007 GT with 6K miles that doesn't sound normal considering I have had numerous GT's over the years which did not have this problem.
Has anyone else experienced this?
It usually occurs at around 2000-2500 RPM's, as the car warms up the noise subsides, at full operating tempature the noise is gone. I am tempted to just get on it in the morning and see if the motor blows just to send it back and say Yeah well your theory of NORMAL operation was way off base, but again I could just get it into service two more times and if they continue to say it is normal I could just lemon law the car...
Just curious if anyone else had this issue.
Thanks

NO THATS NOT NORMAL !! sounds like a cam phaser going out, you might want to find another dealer, to check this out...!!!
It could Be a lifter but I doubt it , with only 6k miles on your motor, plus ford lifters are pretty much fool proof ~~ there have been many cars under 10k loosing cam phasers, the reason why the noise go's away because it heating up and filling up with oil, so theres now presure on the cam phaser and its not loose anymore/ and when it sits there over night it bleeds down and doesnt keep presure so its loose in the morning and making noise!
(GOOD LUCK) !

I am sorry, but your mechanic is full of it. You are supposed to drive away shortly after you started the engine to warm it up optimally. Warm it up before you drive away... *shakes head*
And your motor won't blow that easy... You'll have to be banging off the limiter for quite some time to achieve total engine failure. It is amazing what a car engine can withstand.

Are you using motorcraft filters,or a filter with an anti-drainback valve?Ive seen this problem with alot of 3v engines at work(im a tech for ford). Also,we just got a letter from ford at work that if a customer comes in with an engine failure and are not using motorcraft filters, the engine will NOT be covered under warranty, which I think is total crap.

That is your issue right there....99.9% sure!
EDIT: I am 100% sure this is it. Had the same problem - sounded exactly like you described. Went away when engine warmed up, most prominent at 3000 rpm or thereabouts.

Well I have had it in 3 times now, and still not fixed so I am lemon lawing the car. Ford needs to get their act together because I have been a loyal owner for 20 years and once this lemon law thing gets rolling... I will no longer buy Mustangs. (have my eye on an 06 GT0 now.
I presented all the possibilites you guys have posted and they said it was none of them. The car was in an out the same day each time even with a ford rep coming down to hear the noise and test drive it. He just shrugged it off once the noise went away when it was warm... I was shocked at his blatant disregard for my satisfaction as a ford customer.
I want to thank you guys for coming to my aid and for your advice. Sorry I didn't reply sooner but I didn't want to keep making update after update. This really is a great community of ford owners.
