Default Aftermarket Driveshaft + Safety Loop?

I have noticed that some people who ordered an aluminum driveshaft also ordered a safety loop.

Is this truly necessary if you aren't pushing serious horsepower? I guess if I am screwing around with aftermarket parts in my drivetrain, I would like the idea of having it there just for peace of mind, but is it really unnecessary?

Or does this have something to with racing regulations and it is required if you are running certain times?

its mostly a racing thing but always a good idea for saftey purposes.
NHRA requires a saftey loop on all cars with slicks or cars quicker than 12.99 i think.
