Default Serious or not? HELP

My 08 GT just developed a heavy miss, and only has 3800 miles. Dealer doesn't seem concerned, but they want to replace allof the VCT componets. What kind of damage is this misfire doing to the motor. I have heard the horror stories of bent rods and other wonderful things caused from misfire.

Engine damage from bent rods, etc., are normally the result of detonation in engines with FI. If the dealer's diagnosis points to the VCT as the cause of your engine's miss, thenpoor compression may be happening in one or more cylinders, which may cause engine damage if the valves are opening at the wrong time.Suggest that you do not drivethe car until the problem is fixed.

Wow, that's too bad. So what do they want to replace? The mechanical components of the valve train, the computer components related to it, or both?

Ok,,,,so what can I do to get the warranty to cover a new motor. At 25k miles I plan for some serious bolt-ons. I need to know I have a solid motor to shove air into. Should I just run the he__ out of it, do somethin that leaves no evidence,,,,lol. Goin nuts over this thing. [:'(]
