Default new tires

So i am going to be buying tires soon. Wanted max performance summer, but i go to tire rack and it is 200 dollars per tire. the rossis were 270. and that is with the stock width of the tire. If that is the goign price then by all means thats what i will do, but i was hoping to get a cheaper tire. Also, wanted to know whats the widest i could put on the 18 inch rims, 235s just dont do it for me. Thanks

Probably 255/45-18's, although for a couple of reasons they may not look very much different from 245/45-18's on the same wheels. I hear you about that 235 number.

I say 'probably' because even though 8" is (just barely) an acceptable rim width for that size, Ford puts 255/45 front tireson 18 x 9.5's in the GT500. 265/40's and 275/40's REQUIRE at least a 9" wide wheel, 285/40's want to be mounted on 9.5" minimum.

Top-shelf 18" tires do tend to be expen$ive . . .

Norm knows!! ........... 18" tiresalways cost more. Check out www.edgeracing.com they have the best prices on tires, best that I have found anyway. Just know the size you want to get, tirerack will never sell you a tire that won't fit, thats the benefit of shopping there site. Widest on an 8" rim you can go is like a 275, 285 is pushing it; 255 should not be a problem. I have 275/40r17s on my track wheels. They are 17x8 wheels.

It's not the profile that you have to match, it's the outside diameter. To maintain the same 27" OD when you go wider with the tire you have to lower the profile.

Those optional sizes you just posted are the GT500 sizes, pretty clearly picked by Ford to match the 27" OD of the 235's. With the GT's 8.5" wide rims you could run the 255/45's on all four corners.

My brother bouught some aggressive tread GENERAL tires for his 2000 GT. Nothing but great ratings, and the tread pattern is just amazingly grippy and cool.

Check it out at tirerack

275/40/18 is widest you should go on the stock 18 x 8.5 IMO... 255/45 work fine... got that in front... 265/40/18 work ok too.. a bit shorter... got those rear.... DRs
