Generally speaking.. I double clutch down in one of a couple of scenerio's:

1. I am coming to a red light, and I am slowing down far away from it in the hopes that it turns green before I get to it. I want some engine braking, but not as much as I would get if I just downshifted.

2. I am downshifting to accelerate hard. Kinda self explanatory why here...

3. I am on a slippery surface and slowing downand the shock of a normal downshift could be enough to send me into a slide or a skid.
