It sounds like I might be sticking with the M1.

If for nothing else, it's available at Wally World at a bargain price, and so are Motorcraft FLS oil flters...

I will not use anything but Mobil 1 in my car....and like others said you can usually find it in a 6 quart box at a good price. The only thing I would recomend is that if you take your car to a shop or something to have it changed....watch the guy put your stuff in the car b/c alot of those places will rip you off by pocketing the stuff you brought and putting crap in your car.

Dollar-for-dollar, Mobil1 is an excellent choice. I use Mobil1 in my SUV and Amsoil in the Stang. I changed my Stang to full Synthetic at 2500 miles. Since the Stang already has a synthetic blend, it's not an issue. Even if the Stang came from the factory with full dino, it STILL wouldn't have been an issue for me.

I had about 5 grand on the clock when I changed to Mobile 1. I would have done it sooner, but the car was bought used.

I think you can run the synthetic when you are ready. I've never understood those that think you should allow wear to happen before changing. That being said..
It's not really a matter of allowing wear to happen, but more about letting the surfaces mate. In particular, you want your rings to seal properly. I personally know of cases where synthetic oil was used during/after a rebuild - and the motor used oil so bad it had to be torn down again. It is because of this that I will always wait a few miles before switching - but not necessarily the thousand or so miles that some people adhere to. Your probably OK to switch after driving home from the dealer.

I'd wait until the first oil change at the recommended 5k, because why waste money and oil? That said, I've had several sports/muscle cars over the years and I've used synthetic oil religiously in some and dino in others. I have never seen any difference in longevity or reliablity either way. Therefore, I just use the factory suggested motorcraft and change it every 5k. /shrug
