I have 275/40/17 in the back and stock tires in the front i like them alot but theres only one problem since they are wider then rim they flex alot adding alot of roll to the back end

If you have them on stock 8" wide rims that may be an issue because 275/40R17's are recommended for a rim width range of 9" - 11".

255/50R17's are recommended for a rim width range of 7" - 9", so 8" rims would be right in the middle.

I am not sure if this helps at all, but I have 275/40/17 tires on 1996 Cobra wheels at all 4 corners on my 06 GT right now. They sit perfect and don't rub, the only downfall is that the car follows the imperfections in the road. I just don't know if the 96 wheels that have 245/40/17 stock are wider than your GT

Same here, I have 275/40R17 tires on my track wheels (17x8) but they are not for the street. Although I drive them harder on the track then I ever will on the street.

I've had 275 wide Mickey Thompsons on my car for a year with no problems. I need new ones now though lol

I have a pair of 26x11.5x17 slicks on a spare pair of stock 17s (see pic), but I ONLY use them at the track. I drove a few miles on the street with them one time, and god damn ar ethey squirrelly!

I have Nitto 275/50/17 s on the rear of our 06 GT and like them very much. Have about 20k miles on them with no problems and still lots of tread left. The car is a DD with the stock 235/55/17 Pirellis on the front. The Nittos fill the rear wheel well gap nicely and have never rubbed. They are mounted on stock bullet style 5 spoke rims.

sounds like i'll be going w/ 255x50's. i just need to decide if i want to keep my stock silver torque thrusts or go with chrome
