So there was an article about how increasing the timing on either a N/A or F/I engine 1 degree should provide an extra 4 hp...

I'm running a brenspeed tune which is made by pro's, but could I add a degree or two safely to see if it makes a difference??

And if I do, is it alright to keep the timing like that??

i wouldn't do anything like that, not worth 4 ponies...imo wait till you get a dyno done.

Ditto - more timing requires higher octane and only a professional tuner and dyno can tell you how much timing is 'too much' for your tune. Is a couple ponies worth taking the risk of putting your motor in a dangerous place?

Ummm
when you get a 89 octane or 91 octane or 93 octane tune they are advancing your timing to compensate for the better grade fuel

I think some members on here had issues when they "fooled around" with their custom tune. I wouldn't advise you to do that

The 3V 4.6 seems to make the best power at 27 degree's, but will tolerate as much timing as 32 degrees before detonation occurs. So, going past that 27 degrees will get you nothing... If your already running a "93 octane tune" chances are your already pushing at least 27 degrees anyway... by going any further on your timing, all your doing is taking away the ability of the engine to compensate for bad gas.

Seriously guys... There must be like 5 of these posts a day. Timing is damn near a set formula unless you have something funky going on with your car... If you really think adding a degree of timing is going to make your car into a new kind of monster, then please, go for it. If your stupid enough to think you can change your tune without a wideband O2 sensor, any kind of datalogging,or just some basic tuning knowledge, then IMO you get what you deserve when your engine goes boom.
