Default Do you have an Electric Water Pump? read this

Hey guys, just wanted to share this incedent: 2 days ago I was cruising with my wife when suddenly the car started heating up FAST, I shut off, wait for 5mins, drive again and in a few mins it heats up again, OMG? anyhowwe finally got home safely but it was late at night and I couldn't figure out what the problem was when I popped the hood. The next morning Idrove the car to a mechanic friend and it was heating up all the way to his shop, Ihad to shut er offabout 8-10 times to cool er off before I continue,it was obvious there was no cooling at all, so I finally get to the shop and what was the problem?the day before I took the car to the car wash and it appears somehow the relay that feeds the Electric Water Pump was soaked with water!! therefore the pump wasn't working, he replaced the relay and the that's it!

My point is if you have an electric water pump or planning to have one you have to make sure the relays andwires are all well covered.

I had one and it had a short in it my car overheated also, in my opinion they are a waste of money as it showed zero hp gain [:@]and to many things can go wrong and cause they to stop running

I agree, it's a lot of aggrevation for so little gain. I know how to tell when a mechnical water pump is about to fail and then get it fixed.

What signs are there when an electric water pump is about to go? Does it simply fail all of the sudden?

I wonder how often they fail/short.

How'd you know it was heating up? Do you have an aftermarket gauge or does the stock gauge actually move past the middle?
