can I run the Ford Racing CAI only??
I have an opportunity to purchase the Ford Racing 90mm CAI without the Pro-Cal tool. It was removed from a Shelby-GT because they're installing a Supercharger. Is it ok/safe to install just the CAI and get a tune later? thanks.

You run the risk of major damage. Some CAI state that they can be used without a tune, but to be safe, get a tune if you plan on using one. The Ford racing CAI comes with the tune as a pkg deal. They need each other.

If you can, wait for the new CAI from FRPP.Its the same unit they put on the new Bullitts, its more efficient.

You really don't want to run the FRPP/Steeda CAI without the flash tool from the kit. But if the CAI is cheap enough and you have an '05 S197GT you may want to buy it andpick up the calibration tool from Steeda for the $380 they charge. AFAIK this is the same tool that FRPP supplies but Steeda sells themindividually. The Steeda calibration tool is50 state emissions legalwhich for folks like me who live in California or some other state with stiff emissionscontrol with the FRPP/Steeda CAIand/or FRPP/Steeda CMCV deleteplates, headers, modified exhaustand gearsinstalledthis is a very valuable little tool to have come smog testing time.
But whatever you do DO NOT run that CAI kit without a proper tune. You can also buy the Diablo Predator with Steeda CAI specific tunes which are very good right out of the box. I have had my car on the dyno many times using the Steeda Predator tunes as delivered and the tunes hold timing and A/F at perfect points with excellent power all along the RPM range. My car puts down 316-318RWHP on a Dynojet using SAE correction and smoothing set to 5 whichsignificantly lowers the RWHP numbers you get from a Dynojet pull. I'm running a 90mm Steeda CAI, Steeda high-flow intake tube, 62mm BBK T/B, FRPP CMCV delete plates, JBA shortys, MagnaFlow Tru-X Pipe with high-flow OBDII cats, FRPP M5230 GTA axlebacks and a Meziere eH2O pump.

Historically speaking, so farnothing that FRPP sells that has actually been designed and engineered byFord themselves has worked or performed any better than the aftermarket parts they simply lable and sell as their own. In testing I have performedusing adual thermalcouplemeter the IAT frominside theSteeda air filter and stuck on thefront of the headlightshowed an average delta air temp of 10F. Using the standard 0.5% power gain for every 10F degrees lowerIAT there isessentially nothing to be gained by trying to improve the IAT deltaon a N/A motor with a Steeda CAI kit. The Steeda CAI kit also has a 90mm MAF housing which can flow more air than even a 500bhp supercharged engine canuse.
