Default Anyone else thought about this?...

Currently running FRPP 3.73 gears with 10.5lbs of boost and I would like to be able to drive my car on a 150mi round trip and not see my gas guage drop from FULL to 1/3 of a tank. I was thinking for going back to stock gears and doing a re-tune. Understand that the HP will drop, but with an impending marriage and refinance for the house coming up...need start saving money. its either that or NOT drive the stang...

Changing your gears wont effect your HP.

the gears may affect mpg's maybe 1-2, but if you're just cuising you wont go into boost so shouldnt affect the mpg's that much.

I think it will cost you more to have the rear gears swapped back around then you would save over 2 years.. Granted I do not know how much you drive, but based on my usage you would only see about 1-2mpg difference. Which assuming 17mpg (light foot) @$4.00 gallon you are looking at 23.5 cents a mile or so.. At 15mpg, assumed usage by gear change, you are looking at 26.6 cents a mile or so.. I am not sure of the labor rate for getting your gears changed, but I figure $400 or so.. So it would take you about 13-14000 miles to break even on that change..

Of course I may have my numbers way screwed, so take it with a grain of salt :-)
