So I bought myself a new 2008 GT and have been reading up on CAI and tunes.

I have an auto, live inCalifornia (91 octane max+ draconianlaws), want to be able to revert to stock quickly and easily for warranty/CARB/legality purposes,and will be using the car as a DD / weekend cruiser.

I have read up on the FRPP Mustang GT Power Upgrade Package (http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts...KeyField=10277), JLT CAI + SCT/Diablosport tuners, Brenspeed and Bamachips tunes. I definitely want a CAI and tune.

Which combination CAI, tuner/tunes would be best for my purposes and whydo you recommend them? What about mufflers?

If it were me, I would call someone likeBrenspeed, Bama etc and have them make you a tune based on what you want to do with the car. (you'll get 3 different tunes) They will be very helpful andguide you in the right direction. Have it put on an SCT Xcal and pick CAI that you looks good to you. From my experience, most CAIs go on in about the same amount time.

As for axle backs, you need to search, search, search there is lots of clips on here and youtube with different setups. Sound is very subjective...

Go with either Brenspeed or Bamachips for your CAI/tune. You'll get more "bang" for your buck with either of these tunes.

So after more searching it looks like anything I do will probably not be CARB legal and will need to be undone prior to trips to the dealer.

Brenspeed offers the Steeda CAI (which FRPP rebrands and sells) and Bamachips the JLT CAI. Looks like Brenspeed uses the SCT Xcalibrator 2tuner only and Bamachips also has the Diablosport Predator. I think I'll justgo with aCAI and tune to start...

I have contacted both Brenspeed and Bamachips.

On a side note, anyone know of any good Mustang performance shops in the San Francisco / San Jose / Oakland / Stockton / Sacramento area?

Well, I have had brenspeed and the Ford racing tune. The Brenspeed was nice because it was custom and you could change, or have them change whatever. the Ford racing tune was nice becasue it totally eliminated the lag. The brenspeed was great, but it learned to have lag when you weren't driving like a bat out of hell. You had to reset it every once in a while, but it only took a minute or two. The Ford racing never learned, it always was lagless.

Just the lag factor would make me pick the Ford racing again, but it is more expensive and that could be a factor to whoever as well.

They are both great, so be happy dammitt! [8D]

Thanks for that little piece of information. I have also contacted Moss Mustangs who is an FRPP dealer about the FRPP CAI and tune.

I'd go with a VMP tune as well as the C&L intake with 88mm MAF tube. The tune and intake could be removed in a easy 30 minutes.
