Default fresh air to CAI

I have a K&N CAI on my 06 GT and discovered that its heat shield actually only touches the hood blanket for about 2" on each end due to a depression in the hood blanket right where the heat shield should touch. This prompted me to think some and I came up with installing a plastic 3 1/2" dia. louvered dryer vent cap near the top of the inner fender cover to provide a fresh cold air access very close to the CAI. I am wondering if this would in some way cause the engine to run too lean or anythinbg else troubling that I do not know about.

you should run a pipefor your intakeout the front of your hood.. ive seen many pictures of this done with imports.. im sure our domestics can handle it as well.. then you can get all the fresh air you could need.. ive even seen one where the pipe whent up over the roof of the car...you can just use PVC.. those pricy tubes from jlt and C&L aren't long enough to reach outside of your car to get to the real cold air... alright.. my honest thoughts on doing this: I'm pretty sure doing this would cause no harm. wether or not it helps? I would think it unlikely or perhaps no noticable difference.

If you google CAI's, youll readin the fine print somewhere that most, if not all intakes for our cars are NOT actually cold air intakes. But, thats beside the point...........

There is a kit out there where you remove the drivers side headlite and install something or other underneath the hood to direct the air towards the filter.

The gain would be minimal from what I hear, barely noticeable on a dyno. But I like the PVC on the roof idea...

I was thinking of a way to do something like this too. I decided instead of just buying a new heatshield. My idea was inspired by the new Bullet intake. I discovered that the only other CAI kit that has some similar is the Airaid.

So I called them up and order a Airaid heatshield, "cool air dam" as they call it. It completely isolates all around the filter, even the bottom, and has a soft seal for the hood, so air only can be retreived fromt the fenderwell. For $45 shipped, it was worth a try. I don't know if it will fit with my K&N yet, but that's why I have a dremmel.
