Default Need help identifying a CAI

hey guys (and gals) a friend of mine bought a 07 GT about a month ago and we were trying to figure out what kind of mods the previous owner did to it, he said that the dealer he purchased if from knew that it had a CAI and a tune on it but didnt know any details on either one of those, the CAI has absolutly no identifying marks on it and i google image searched mustang CAI's to try to find something similar to help identify it, this is the closest i can find

http://images.mustangmonthly.com/fea...Air_Intake.jpg

it has the same black ribbed (and looks to me like overly bent) tube but on my friends the filter box or guard is smooth polished aluminum or brushed stanless, and the filter itself is blue and looks a lil longer than this one

anyone got any idea what kind of intake this could be, and if it is any good or not?

that's the factory inlet tube, with the steeda cold air kit (since you say the filter is blue) Upgrade to the high flow inlet elbow and you will be just fine

ok, thanks, i guess i thought any cai kit would be complete from the intake to the filter, shows what i know huh, so that big dang curve in it does slow down air as much as it looks like, would you be able to tell a seat of the pants difference between the factory tube and the aftermarket steeda one? and will the tune need to be modified

Might be the FRPP intake and tune.

I don't know if you need the tune with the factory inlet tube, but when I installed mine with the high flow tube, it wouldn't go anywhere until I loaded the tune.

Best thing to do would be to purchase a new CAI of your choice. The cost is not too high. Then buy a Tuner and that way you know exactly what has been done.

Looks like a dirty Steeda CAI, not sure about the inlet tube, looks a little like a Saleen Extreme to me for some reason, but I don't know what the FRPP looks like, but I don't think the tube is aftermarket.

changing just the filter, like pictured above, wont need a tune with it, its when the inlet tube is changed, being a larger size that a tune is needed with it. To me, like posted above, it looks like the stock inlet tube with the box taken off, and a cone filter put in it. Id recommend going with a brand new C&L intake and have the tune done by someone local, if you dont have a good tuner locally that u can take ur car to, then the next best thing would be 2 order the intake/tune package from brenspeed.com
