Default Best way to clean CAI?

What do you guys do after about 5,000 miles on your CAI.

Clean it with water, than re-oil it?

Or throw it in the dish washer than re-oil it?

Noo, there are kits out there to wash it with. What CAI do you have?

I just replaced the filter, cost me $18 more then the re oil kit, but Its a brand new filter, so i dont have to clean it, and no matter how much u clean it, it wont be like new.

Also consider, if u improperly oil it, (to little) you can allow little particles to get in your intake or ( to much) get in on your MAF and in your intake/TB.

For $18 more i see a lot more positives.

I'm curious about how often you have to clean these things. I have an Airaid, and looked up the cleaning kit. By my recollection, the ad says you have to clean it every 30,000 to 50,000 miles. Does this sound right?

I just replaced mine at 18K miles, so the filter had 17K miles on it. It depends more on where u live, but I dont judge it by milage, I judge it by how it looks. If its red its fine, if its Blackish ( on my C&L Filter) Its time for a chage. That Filter went through 1 year and 2 camping trips that included about 10 miles of dirt road driving each.

BTW incase you do clean yours, dont ever use any compressed air on the filter to blow things out of it. You will damage the fibers on the filter, push the crap into it deeper, and blow out the oil. (sounds obvious, but I did make that mistake once before while cleaning my engine bay)

Anyone know the proper cleaning procedure for the Steeda CAI? Is it just an oil-type filter, and I can go to the local speed shop and buy a K&N re-oil kit? Or is there anything special I should know?

I used the k&n kit on my jlt intake air filter. Worked good. Exx1976, I wouldn't use the k&n on your filter unless you have a red one. Oil from kit is red. Worked fine to match my jlt, but not a blue steeda. Cleaning the filter is the easy part, applying the oil evenly is the hard part.

I personally think the K&N filter cleaning solution isa joke. I wash mine in the bathtub, using use hot water and Dawn. (dish soap.) I personally think Dawn does a much better job cleaning the filters than K&N's cleaning solution.

Oh, I dont tend to clean my airfilter too often. I might get around to cleaning it twice a year.

So what can I use for the Steeda? Or is it not a serviceable filter and needs to be replaced? The bag it came in was kind of oily, so I would think it's the same principle as a K&N..
