Default High Idle??

I just got my GT yesterday and notice that on startup it idles around 2000 RPM at first and eventually dips down to a tad under 1000. Is this high or am I being paranoid? The weather here has been in the 60s. Thanks.

Sounds like mine. I have an auto, live in San Diego, and haven't felt as though there was any problem with the idling.

Hope this helps.

I have a manual if that makes a difference. On cold startup (temp in the 30's this morning) it idles at 1500 for about 10 seconds, then falls to 1250. After it's warmed up it idles at about 750 rpm.

Thats more like it. Mine also goes to about 2200 at cold start. I dont drive it that much and it bugs me to start an engine thats been sittin a few days that way. I wonder if any of these custom programs like Diablo let you set the cold start rpms.

Well mine starts at 2000 and stays there for a few seconds in 70 degree weather... is that a problem?

It's warming up your engine.

That's the computer system running the car in a closed loop emission setting. It allows all the sensors to get up to temperature and self test before allowing them to start providing input to the computer for adjustments.

Nothing to worry about.

Its just that the oil isnt even up to pressure yet and its turning fairly high revs. Dont matter if its a '55 or an '05, its still a piston type engine. Seems they could accomplish this at around 1500 rpm. Thats a fairly typical fast idle speed in the Old days.
