RE: Sumitumos from American Muscle
I have the Sumitomo's. I keep hearing how they suck but I actually like mine. THe only traction issues I have are on cold mornings (40's or colder) but any summer tire is that way. I haven't driven them on wet roads yet so I can't give an opinion on that.

RE: Sumitumos from American Muscle
I have 255/45/18 Sumitomo HTRZ on 18x9 DD Bullits all around. They have a tread life rating of 300 - typical for a summer only HP tire. I've had them in autoX and on skid pads, dry and wet.
Dry: they don't have a ton of grip. Lots of tire squeal on tight corners. Rear end is very easy to slide coming out of a corner. Easy to spin on takeoff (partially due to low profile). Braking performance seems pretty good. Their strongest trait is predictability...I can feel exactly when the tires are going to loose traction and its quite easy to adjust the gas/brakes/steering to compensate.
Wet: they are very good in the wet. Surprisingly sticky. Keep in mind this is wet...not standing water in a downpour, so I don't know how they do as far as hydroplaning goes.
They also seem to wear pretty well. Although I only have a couple thousand miles on them, they are very hard miles and if anything the grip has improved and there is no sign of wear.
They are probably good for the price, especially for a DD. But I don't think I'll be buying them again. I'm willing to spend more for a grippier set of skins. Oh yea - the important part - they look really good.
