I've got over a thousand miles on my Spec II and I still get clutch shudder at low RPMs in 4th gear. If I could do it over again, I would have bought the Mcleod.
What exactly causes the clutch to chatter or shudder? Surely you don't have to spend $1k on a clutch to avoid chatter.
When I spoke to SPEC just after installation, they told me it was normal and would disappear after break in (500 miles). After break in, I spoke to SPEC again and they told me that sometimes it takes as long as 1000 miles for the shudder to completely go away. After 1000 miles, I spoke to them again and was basically told that you have to expect a performance clutch to make a little bit of noise, and it would probably never go away.

To answer your question, lots of things can cause clutch shudder. Dirt or oil on the flywheel surface. (Which I know wasn't there because I cleaned the clutch plate and flywheel with acetone immediately before I assembled them together.) Improperly surfaced flywheel. (I had my flywheel resurfaced by a well respected machine shop while I had my tranny out.) It could be a multitude of problems.

Chris, what grade is your K-80?
standard grade 30" screw chokes and upgraded wood with 410 28 & 20 gauge Briley tubes. Sale is pending right now, a guy said he sent a check, I'm waiting for it.

Well don't replace it with a Ram clutch because they say right on their website that their performance clutches will chatter. They also told me the stock flywheel wouldn't work with their performance series clutches because of the friction material used.

I'll be installing the spec stage 2 with their steel flywheel in 2 weeks. I'll be sure to post the results and i'm doing a how to with pics in hopes to get $100 back from amercian muscle.

i have the spec 3+ with fidanza flywheel. when the car it warmed up there is not a whole lot of"shutter"

When you go for performance you need to realise youre giving up some comfort.

^^^Ditto.

Personally, I like the spec 3+ clutch as well but not a fan of the other models.

Yeah, I did a half-*** how-to write up whenI installed my spec, but I didn't include pics. It wasn't incredibly difficult. I'd say you could do it in a day.
