Ahh crap - Shifter install

Ahh crap - Shifter install
Well nothing is ever a simple as it seems. Started the shifter installation this afternoon. Quickly realized I had a problem.
The bushing on the trans arm is bulged out, partially covering the head of the bolt, so I can't remove it. Spent 15 minutes trying to push it back into place, to no avail. What should I do?

RE: Ahh crap - Shifter install
I managed to hack away at with some cutters until I had destroyed the bushing enough to expose the head. I finished the install.
It got that way because the original owner installed the steeda tri-ax, then removed it and put the stock shifter back in. When he re-installed the bushings he didn't use a washer and I guess it sort of popped overthe head of the nut. This is probably part of the reason the shifting felt so clunky to me.
Now that I have the tri-ax back in, the mechanism is precise but the NVH went way, way up. Car just roars now at high rpm, lots of noise and vibration.

You might not want to hear this, but the best way to get rid of that NVH is spelled MGW. I'm glad at least you figured a way to solve your immediate problem. Good luck!
