i have a 2005 mustang gt and i have been changing my own oil using sae-5w20 ford motercraft synthetic blend. my freind works for toyota and hooked me up with a lot of sae-5w20 toyota oil and i was wondering if it is ok for my mustang. i dont think the toyota oil is synthetic blend eighter but not sure. do u guys think i will be fine using it?

Well I am no expert but if its the same viscosity then it shouldnt hurt it

Really as long as the wieght and API rating is the same and it is synthetic go for it. As long as those3 conditions are met you realisticly are fine even if it says Yugo

how do i find out the api ratings? and im not sure if it is synthetic oil or not. does the mustang require synthetic?

API rating will be on the bottle in the badge looking thing.Compare it to what is listed in the owners manual. You can go higher, but not lower.You need at least synthetic blend in the mustang. I am not sure if there would be any bad effects to running straight dino oil, but it has oil actuated cam timng, so i would take that into conciteration before dumpng the "free" oil in it. Come to think of it I don't know if I have seen any full dino 5w20 oil, but I use full synthetic, if for no other reason I get the warm fuzzy feeling from usingit.

IMHO it's fine to use.
check manufacturer's specs on both oils. i am surethat "toyota" oil(used in toyota'sDOHC VVT engines)meets/exceeds ford specs all the way.
afterall, myhuge localtoyota dealership evenputs quaker state mineral oil in all cars every 5kmiles. IMHO most modern mineral oils are as good as synthetics or blends, may just not last as long, but with 3-5kmi changes it is not an issue.
