Default WTF...

alright guys. i had to untune car and return to stock last week to pass emissions here in tn. since returning to stock i have gotten 18-21 mpg instead of the 13-15 mpg while i have been running tuned on 93 octane. another is that i went back to running 87 for the past week. wtf. can somebody explain to me why i am getting less mpg when i am supposed to be using less gas cuz of the tune. could it be running a little too rich by the tuner and can i change it with my xcal 2?
if its nothing im about to put the c&L intake back on and tune it for 87 octane and see what the mpg's are that way. and compare the two results. any help will be greatly apprecaited. thanks guys

I am not an expert, but increasing power effects your power:weight ratio, and greater power for the same weight is more efficient. Consider putting a 4 cyl in a 3600 lb Dodge Viper.....you'll get terrible gas mileage, but the V10 gets like 24 mpg.

However when you have more power, you always want to put your foot down, and doing that will get worse mpg. Drive sensibly and your mpg should increase a little with added power.

I concur. Back whenI had my red GT, Ruby,I got around 26 mpg on the interstate with the stock tune. I got an tune from brenspeed, went down to 24. blew my mind.I thought about, then tested again. This time, driving as a normal person. I got right at 27. It's all in how you drive my friend, so easy to let her rip. So fun, so I can't really blame you.

thanks. i have the same driving habits stock as i do tuned though. i got out of the 4.0l v6 to get the gt. just b/c of my driving habits. hence why i got 11 points last yr on my drivers license. i like to drive fast. the only real noticable diff in the way the car drives in on the interstate. just doesn't have that downshift roar like it does with the cai on. when you drop it to 3rd gear when tuned it takes off. when you do the same now the damn drive by wire takes a second to kick in then it doesn't take off the same. when driving around town car is about the same. might help that i have the 3.55 gears instead of the 3.31. but i miss the grunt of the cai and will most likely put it back on tonight before i leave work.

hell i only wish i ever got 24 mpg. since i bought her the fuel miles have been b/w 15-19 mpg. most of my 15 min ride to work is on the interstate going away from the flow of morning traffic, not a lot of traffic. run bout 80-85 the whole way to work. then once i get off the interstate i have less than a mile to work. i think i need to get the money together and take it to a tuner with a dyno. just to make sure im not running way to rich and just waisting gas. couldn't i make the tune a little more lean with the xcal. but i know not to go to far lean from fear of blowing her up. but could this be a possibilty solution to the running rich problem?
